The Avery Plaw ’85 Debating and Public Speaking Award
Avery Plaw was a champion debater and public speaker. This was a huge part of his life and identity as a student and later, as a teacher. In 1994, Avery won the North American Debating Championship and was recognized as the top individual debater that year. He and his debating partner were then invited to compete at the 1994 World's Championship in Melbourne, Australia. He went on to create and organize the debating club at Dawson College and coached the Concordia debating team with great success.
This annual prize will be awarded to a deserving St. George’s student who has met the criteria established by the English Department.
Thank you to the Class of 1985 and Ms. Hyacinth Young for establishing this award in memory of Avery Plaw.
