March in Review

Vive la Francophonie!

March was a vibrant month for student life at St. George’s, as students explored the richness of Francophone culture through hands-on learning and engaging workshops during Le Mois de la Francophonie. At the High School, Grade 9 and 10 students joined comic book artist Laurence Dea Dionne to write their own original French comic stories. Later in the month, Grade 7 and 8 students entered the fast-paced world of French improvisation in sessions led by Impro Sierra where they were challenged to think on their feet and use their spoken French to respond to new prompts and scenarios in real time.

At the Elementary School, students in Grades 1, 2, and 5 took part in literary activities with Communication Jeunesse. Throughout the week, staff and learners across all levels participated in a Relais de lecture, with a French story being read somewhere on campus at all times. Students also experienced a dynamic and inclusive Francophone culture through world music and drumming with Kattam et ses Tam-Tams, as well as traditional dishes from French-speaking countries at lunch.

“Je suis profondément inspiré par l’énergie dont nos élèves ont fait preuve. Ensemble, nous avons célébré une francophonie diversifiée et inclusive. Merci de faire rayonner notre langue avec autant de passion.”

— Nathalie Roy, Head of High School French Department

Science Enrichment Speaker-Series

Our Science Enrichment Speaker Series is designed to bridge the gap between the classroom and the professional world by bringing in experts from fields such as medical research, clinical medicine, and engineering. This month, we welcomed Ludovic Mouttet, a researcher from McGill University, to speak with our Grade 9 to 12 students. Ludovic shared his work on how heart cells respond to cancer treatments, providing a powerful example of how the concepts students learn in the classroom have a direct, real-world impact on people’s lives.

The series continues through the spring with upcoming sessions featuring experts in neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics and stem cell research.

Parent-School Partnership

Thank you to all our families and educators for connecting during parent-teacher interviews. These conversations are a vital part of the educational process at St. George’s. It was rewarding to hear so much positive feedback, confirming that our students feel happy, seen, and supported every day.

Jazz Ensembles Hit a High Note

Our musicians had a rewarding experience this past month at the Quebec Band Association (QBA) Festival. Both our Junior and Senior Jazz ensembles participated, showcasing the dedication they poured into their repertoire this year. It was a great opportunity for them to perform in a professional festival and connect with the wider Quebec musical community.

G Major Takes the National Stage

G Major travelled to Cambridge this month for the Show Choir Canada Competition. They delivered a stellar performance that was sharp, soulful, and full of “infectious energy” according to the judges. The team earned a third-place finish, but the highlight for many was reuniting with a cast member from G Major’s inaugural year, Patrick Park ’12. Now a lead in the musical & Juliet, Patrick and other cast members spent time with our Glee group, sharing advice on hard work and the arts.

Stewardship on Campus

The Elementary School Green Team spent time outdoors this month with Julia from Programme Coyote. By tracking animal prints and learning to identify the trees on our own campus, they deepened their connection to the land we share. These workshops help our youngest Dragons grow into confident, caring stewards of their environment.

Adolescent Safety and Responsibility

We want our students to lead healthy, safe lives both on and offline. This month, our Grade 11 students met with experts from the Montreal Children’s Hospital to discuss the realities of adolescent risk behaviours. Through honest conversation and personal testimonials, students discussed topics ranging from responsible partying and consent to digital safety. It was a morning of “real talk”, designed to give them the tools they need to make informed choices.

Congratulations to our Bantam Boys Futsal team for their impressive undefeated season and finals win this month, earning the RSEQ Championship Banner. Our athletes showed great determination and cohesion throughout their matches, representing St. George’s with pride. A special shout-out goes to Eli K., who was named Most Valuable Player for his contribution to the team’s success.
