Imagine the hum of drills, the chatter of students sharing ideas, and the excitement of seeing a project come together from start to finish. That’s the daily scene at St. George’s—thanks to more than $10,000 in brand-new Milwaukee® tools for student learning, a generous gift from a longstanding St. George’s family. Stored on the Elementary School Campus in the Maker Space and in the High School Metal Shop, these tools give students opportunities to create and problem-solve across multiple disciplines. Safe tool use is taught and practiced in a variety of inter-disciplinary projects, empowering students to take ideas from concept to creation.
Engineering Ideas Into Action
These top-of-the-line tools were quickly integrated into teaching and learning at St. George’s. They are used for STEAM projects, robotics builds, Earth Day activities, art installations, and more. At the High School, they bolster classroom teaching and student-led design. For the Robotics Club, they help keep workspaces clean while up to 40 students at a time work in the wood and metal shops.
“We are lucky to have such incredible tools as part of our hands-on learning. These tools allow students to explore ideas in ways that textbooks alone never could.”
— Dan Freder, Robotics Lead Facilitator

Thinking Outside the Box
At the Elementary School, even the youngest students are interactive learners, power tools and hand tools included. Whether building wood frames to create Cartesian planes for mapping imaginary islands, or designing new rain barrels to more efficiently collect rain water for their outdoor gardens, elementary students are learning to think outside the box and develop skills not normally taught in an Elementary School.
“Watching students discover their inner handy-person and take pride in their completed projects is one of the most rewarding experiences.”
— Erin Ryan, Grade 3 English and Math teacher

Why These Tools Matter
The tools foster collaboration, creativity, and confidence by engaging students in problem-solving and hands-on learning. They also support a wide range of STEAM work—from robotics and science labs to art installations and woodshop projects. Students can imagine, design, and build safely while bringing ideas to life.
“This donation of Milwaukee® tools gives teachers the opportunity to create projects rooted in real-life applications, which foster deeper learning among our students.”
— Laura Officer, Elementary School Teaching and Learning Coordinator
Every day, students are collaborating, creating, and learning at every level. This generosity has given them the tools to explore, invent, and grow, demonstrating the power of thoughtful support in sparking the next generation of makers.
