Week of October 27

The Elementary School campus was glowing with autumn warmth during Fall Fest, an afternoon filled with laughter, music, and togetherness. Families and staff enjoyed locally sourced treats, STEAM games, a live student band, storytelling, estimation challenges, and took part in a dragon-inspired collaborative art piece. This year’s Halloween Costume Swap added a sustainable twist, encouraging students to trade costumes and reduce waste. Families shared how special it felt to gather again, watching students and siblings play freely on the field.

“School community events like this remind us how much joy there is in simply being together.”

A huge thank-you to Kindergarten teacher Cassandra Wong for spearheading the initiative and to the Grade 6 volunteers, teachers, and staff for bringing this celebration to life.

Halloween Safety with Officer Anthony

Our Kindergarten students had a special visit from Officer Anthony of the SPVM, who led a fun, interactive session on Halloween safety. Students learned to make sure their costumes aren’t too long or dark, to keep eye contact with their adults, and to make sure to ask their parents before they eat any candy to check for tampering.

Officer Anthony also handed out reflective armbands for students to wear over their costumes and patiently answered their curious questions about police work. He reminded them that police officers are there to protect everyone, especially children, and wished them a safe and happy Halloween.

Robotics Team Head to CRC Kickoff

The High School Robotics Team kicked off their season this week at the official CRC Robotics Competition launch, where they discovered this year’s theme and engineering challenge. The team received their participant kit: including motors, control boards, remote units, batteries, and game-specific components—and got their first look at the playing field.

With the challenge revealed, the build season is officially underway. Over the next several weeks, students will collaborate, experiment, and problem-solve as they design, build, and refine their robot.

Welcoming Dominican Republic Exchange Students

This week, we welcomed three new faces to our High School community: María, Sofía, and Sebastián, visiting from the Dominican Republic as part of our cultural exchange program.

Accompanied by their teacher Aida, the students will be with us until November 15, learning alongside peers, sharing their culture, and exploring life in Montréal. Their arrival continues a long-standing tradition of global connection and friendship at St. George’s.

Music in Motion: Grade 6 at the OSM

This week, Grade 6 band students headed to the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal for a Halloween-themed concert at the Maison Symphonique. The “Trick or Treat!” program featured works like Saint-Saëns’ Danse macabre, John Williams’ Hedwig’s Theme, and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, blending music and storytelling.

Students experienced live orchestral performance, and connected what they’ve learned in class to the stage, and saw how music can tell stories that spark imagination and emotion.
