Purpose in Every Step: How Our Students Made an Impact

Founded by St. George’s in 2023 as a grassroots Elementary School initiative, Rising Voices: A Climate Call to Action has grown into a movement that continues to put student voice, collaboration, and climate literacy at the forefront. Last week, more than 2,000 students from eight schools joined us on the streets of Westmount for our third annual march.

This year’s march was a culmination of deep, cross-grade learning. From Kindergarten to Grade 11, our students explored the local and global impacts of climate change, developed advocacy skills, and used creative expression to engage the community in meaningful dialogue. A stunning 20-foot social art piece—created by our Elementary School students through One Drop Foundation’s Artefact for Change program and made possible by Head’s Fund support—debuted as a powerful symbol of water protection and environmental stewardship.

St. George's students Sophie (Gr. 5) and Jacqueline (Gr. 6) took to the microphone at King George Park to deliver moving speeches, urging peers and decision-makers to act boldly and urgently. Their clarity and confidence were a powerful reminder of how capable and committed our students are.

A heartfelt thank you to all the faculty and staff who supported this important initiative, with special shoutouts to Laura Officer, Zenia Dusaniwsky, Julie Kaegi, Shayna Lavoie, and Luke Welton.
