At St. George's School of Montreal, the Arts play an important role in the development and overall education of our students.
Our Visual Arts specialist introduces our students to the fundamental techniques of drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpting to name a few, and also taps into the children's natural curiosity to explore why and how creative ideas come to life. Student creativity, art appreciation and visual expression are the heart of each class.
Our program is also enriched with field trips to museums, visits with artists, and authentic projects that bridge our school and our community - all in an effort to enhance our students' understanding of Art and to ensure a complete exposure to the world of Visual Arts.
Music at St. George's Elementary is designed to develop an appreciation for different genres. From classical to contemporary, students have the opportunity to explore sound and rhythm in all its forms. They are taught the basics of vocal expression rhyme and beat, and instruments such as the flute, clarinet, trombone and saxophone are introduced at different grade levels. Students are continuously challenged to express themselves through sound and learn to appreciate how music can be created with a simple tap of the hand, or stomp of a foot. Concerts prepared by our students also offer a forum to display their dramatic talents in addition to their musical aptitudes.
