Dear Member of the St. George’s Community,

I am truly honoured and privileged to serve the entire St. George’s School community as its new Board President. My path to becoming Board President started like many of my predecessors: as a proud St. George’s parent. In my case, a parent of four children, of which two have graduated and two are currently attending the high school.

Over the past 14 years, I fell in love with St. George’s School and the people in it. This school is populated with some of the most caring, involved, warm, loving people that you can imagine. As my children prospered here, my level of involvement in school affairs began to increase. Basically, St. George’s School became our extended family. As Co-chair of the Parents Activities Committee (PAC), for the past six years, I saw first hand how our parent community is so involved with the overall functioning of the school.

This is no surprise to anyone in the St. George’s School family, as it was the parents who helped establish the school more than 80 years ago as an institute of innovative and child centred, quality education; it is the parents of today who continue to champion and support St. George’s mission and values by becoming personally involved with the well being of the school. Our kids will acquire knowledge, leadership and life skills that will benefit them long after graduation. It is a collaborative culture where our students thrive – academically as well as with respect to character and leadership.

My mandate as Board President will require a combination of hard work, respect, confidence and the ability to foster teamwork. I encourage everyone to contribute whenever you can and promise to listen respectfully. I will do the same. The key attributes of leadership are essentially the same, whether in sports, academe, business or government. Together our accomplishments will be amazing: through teamwork, being considerate of one another, being team players and taking collective pride in the end result.

I have have set four main goals while I am Board President:

  • To implement/support our model of shared governance
  • To clearly identify Board goals and responsibilities
  • To ensure financial viability
  • To keep everyone talking and working together to make St George's the best of the best

These are some of the goals and challenges that the Board and I face over the next three years. My responsibilities to the school will always be foremost in my mind.

With the continued support of faculty, staff, alumni and parents, I am very confident that
St. George’s School will become an even stronger school, as it continues its mission of providing our children with an education in which we can all be proud.
