A PASSION FOR HISTORY LEADS TO CRITICAL THINKING 'EN FRANCAIS'

Historica goes well beyond the typical after-school activity, and offers a yearlong learning experience that fosters critical and creative thinking culminating in the Regional History Competition and presentation in French (hosted this year by St. George’s). Of course, the St. George’s approach to history takes the accumulation of facts one step further by deepening the Elementary students’ understanding of their chosen concept.

Throughout the year, each student is grouped with a Canadian history “coach” from the Grade 10 class, and is guided in the development of reasoning and research skills – where they are encouraged to question and get passionate about these topical Canadian realities.

“To ensure that students become mini-experts on their topic”, adds Nathalie Bossé, “each participant meets with an external mentor or expert in their field of inquiry so that they can establish real life connections."
