THE CLE: ENRICHING STUDENT LEARNING AND GROWTH

The St. George’s Centre for Learning Enrichment (CLE) was established in 2007 as a unique and complimentary centre of learning and pedagogy, reaching beyond the classroom through a continuum of connection and opportunity for each student. St. George’s is in fact a lead school in this domain, owing in large part to the interventions of the CLE. Enrichment and support have become common practice at the school where the individual strengths, interests and passions of each student are first recognized and then fostered.

Nathalie Bossé, director of the St. George’s CLE, notes that “recent cognitive research and its impact on education has been put into action with the St. George’s CLE, bringing real-world connections and enrichment opportunities to all our students." Today, these enrichment opportunities are numerous and cover every academic subject as well as a multitude of community-based activities.

The day-to-day classroom experience has been enhanced by student participation in a wide array of external competitions, curriculum related field trips, and a differentiated delivery of curriculum that is student-need based. With the explosion of information regarding unique learning styles and how to best address them with various teaching interventions, it has become the challenge of every pedagogue and school community to further understand and implement effective strategies to enrich student learning and growth.

“But the drivers of the classroom experience are our teachers,” adds Nathalie, “and the St. George’s CLE ensures that significant investment in professional development helps makes the practical link between best practices in education and delivery of a rich and engaging curriculum.”
